A combine of months ago, Wiggins Board of Education members were informed that much of the mat in the district kitchen was broken down or on its last legs.

At that time, the cooker -- described as a broiling kettle -- had failed. That was one of the dominant pieces of equipment the kitchen used, and the next month one of the double ovens failed.

That prompted parents Gary and Laura Teague to subscribe to $25,000 to use in renovating the kitchen.

At the board's monthly meeting on Wednesday, Wiggins Livelihood Director John Kopetzky told the board that the cooker and the coupled oven had been replaced and installed.

While the board had appropriated money to supplant the cooker, some of the donation was used to replace the oven with convection ovens, said Boss Steve Neel.

There is still equipment to replace -- such as a freezer and warmers -- and the allotment was set aside to use for what the kitchen needs.
