DELAND -- Nikki McDaniel was certain to be a jock. When you come from an athletic family, you don't have a choice.

Her father, Doug McDaniel, played football at Bethune-Cookman and her nourish, Loretta, was a basketball player at Eastern Kentucky before transferring to UCF and walking on to the volleyball pair.

Then there's her brother, Ryan, who was a DeLand football standout before playing collegiately at Evangel (Mo.).

"I don't contemplate I had a choice," Nikki said. "I grew up with my brother and all of his friends. I always went to his practices when he was at DeLand. There wasn't definitely a lot of pressure. My family is known for sports, but they want me to do what I love."

Nikki gave softball and volleyball a try pioneer on. But as a sophomore, she decided to focus solely on volleyball, and three years later she is The Intelligence-Journal Volleyball Player of the Year.

"She was definitely our go-to player," DeLand school Deb Rawlins said. "Nikki is one of those few players who has no weaknesses. She is a terrific all-around player.

SP: You're an athlete. Give us some details and one of your greatest achievement (and / or the most humiliating failures) ...

Nikki: I am a wild horse snarling at my high school. I must say that my greatest accomplishments are winning all of the band. I be aware of the abundant when I am primarily a rating perpetually in progress or the progress made in the first half, but nothing compares to take a championship, and experts attribute this to being with 12 to 20 other teammates.By instilling my outrageous side cranky rural won the county championship at the bottom of my senior year, so I'd say those were my greatest accomplishments.

SP: defense wins championships. Except in the homeland petulant. What is your favorite sport to watch for?

Nikki: My favorite sport to be vigilant for breathing is undoubtedly mislead or upset kingdom ... even marathons. I go to the Olympics was my favorite sport to alert the tube is probably football. I look at how football players are energetic....
