ONE did not have to be a motorcycle aficionado to appreciate the fleet of gleaming two-wheelers lining both sides of North Yu Seng Method during the Bikers Patch Party at Ming’s Café and Bistro in Miri last week.

From patronage choppers to vintage rides, there was plenty to feast the senses on as hundreds of bikers and motorcycle fans from across Borneo flocked to the big apple’s tourism corridor to share their love for the mean machines on exhibition as well as to strengthen bonds of brotherhood within the biker fraternity.

Once associated with detrimental motorcycle gang culture in the West, motorcycling is now widely famed for its free-spirited rock-and-roll influenced culture.

The bikers who took part in the dinner party came from all walks of life, forming a colourful quilt consisting of discrete ages, professions, ethnicity and socio-economic backgrounds but communal by the common threads of  love for motorcycles and riding the open approach.

Customised styling and artwork adorning the more than 200 machines on manifest were as much a reflection about their owners’ passion for their rides, as well as an extension of their peculiar individual personalities.
