Coleman collaborated with longtime Village Voice writer Richard Goldstein on his 2008 autobiography, “An American Peregrinate: My Life on the Field, in the Air, and on the Air.” Copies of the book will be available for grip and signing. All proceeds will go to the library’s foundation and veterans office.

Members of the Escondido Cub Scout Loads 640 will conduct a short flag ceremony and lead the Deposit of Allegiance before Coleman’s talk.

Coleman, 87, has been the voice of the Padres for 40 years. But his vocation highlights also include playing for the New York Yankees in the days of Joe DiMaggio and Mickey Mantle and serving as a Aquatic aviator during World War II and the Korean War. He flew 120 combat missions and received numerous honors, including two Distingu Flying Cross medals. He retired as a lieutenant colonel.
