YOUNGSTOWN - The Pittsburgh Pirates' caravan rolled to the Butler League of American Art at Youngstown State University on Wednesday as four team representatives, including two players, previewed the upcoming 2012 condition.
The Pirates finished 2011 at 72-90 and fourth in the National Confederacy Central Division. They led the division in mid-July before trailing off, the latest they were in first during a age since 1997.
"It was euphoric; it was magical," said Greg Brown, a Pirates present and television play-by-play announcer. "It also proved once again, we've been saying it forever, that Pittsburgh and this municipality, this area, is a great baseball region."
The Pirates, along with the Cleveland Indians, finished as the top two for largest gathering increase. The Pirates drew 1,940,429 fans, which ranks fourth all-chance in the team's 125-year history.
Brown said he hopes they can uphold that number.
"We saw people wearing Pirate caps, shirts all around town," Brown said. "It was everything we cerebration it would be.
