SALAMANCA — The Salamanca halfway point and high school building was
placed on lockdown during the morning of Jan. 5 after a admirer
threatened a teacher and police with a lacrosse stick shaft and
pair of scissors.
The affair happened at approximately 9 a.m., when a
15-year-old male high junior high school student began to experience emotional
distress, according to territory superintendent Robert Breidenstein.
As the situation escalated, school councilors and management
were called in to help.
"They attempted to deescalate the situation and it became pretty
apparent it was not going to resolve itself immediately," Breidenstein
said. "They did a great job of intervening, containing the learner
and trying to get him to a calmer place, but within a matter of a
couple minutes it became harmonious clear ... we were going to need
some outside assistance."
The faction issued a code red, instructing students and staff
members to remainder in classrooms until further notice, and called
local police authorities and pinch medical technicians.
Breidenstein said a code red was issued due to the timing of the
scene.
