Court Smarter, Play Better
Q: The Demon Deacons have a low turnover rate, are shooting a high share from the field and behind the 3-point line. I have to think the improved efficiency can be attributed to proper point guard Tony Chennault running the team. Is he 100 percent sturdy? And since we haven’t seen him give us your scouting report of his strengths and weaknesses.
A: I wouldn’t go anointing Tony Chennault too much. He is truly relatively turnover prone, and despite his ability to flip the twitch and score at will sometimes, he makes a lot of mistakes. He has a propensity for driving too deep in the lane and throwing it away or stepping on the end forte. The better turnover rate can be attributed to a number of reasons, most distinctly a team-wide commitment to taking care of the ball, almost to a blameable. The team gets in their grade school triple threat angle, surveys, passes, surveys, passes, and tries to find an open buckshot. A lot of the turnovers actually come from doing this too much, and having to rush things at the end of the immediately clock.
